The problem
Associates spent hours locating precedent clauses across thousands of matter documents. A general-purpose chatbot was ruled out because client data could not leave Canada or reach a model unredacted.
The approach
- Discovery produced a data-flow map and a written list of what may and may not be sent to a model.
- Personal and client identifiers are redacted in a pre-processing step; the model only ever sees placeholders.
- Every answer carries citations back to the source paragraph, and a click opens the document at that spot.
- Partners wrote forty evaluation questions with acceptable answers; the suite runs on every deployment.
